Legal
Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is seeking a full-time
staff attorney to work in its
Durham Office, which provides free legal assistance in
civil matters to low-income clients in Durham, Caswell, Franklin,
Granville, Person, Vance and Warren counties. The selected
applicant will be trained and engaged in our general practice of
law, with an emphasis on litigation in the area of consumer law.
LANC is a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3), law firm that generally
provides free legal services in civil matters in all 100 counties of
North Carolina to those households whose income primarily falls
below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The selected applicant will interview, advise and represent
low-income clients in civil matters, provide outreach and community
legal education in the Durham Office’s service area, and perform
other related responsibilities that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be licensed to practice law in
North Carolina. For those not currently
licensed, an offer of employment will be contingent upon being
licensed, via exam or comity, by August 30, 2008. We are looking for a highly organized,
zealous advocate with a demonstrated commitment to legal advocacy
for low-income people or public interest and a desire to work in a
collaborative and team-oriented environment. An appreciation
for diversity is essential. Entry level and experienced applicants
will be considered for this position. High proficiency in
Spanish is preferred. The selected applicant must possess a NC
Driver’s License and reliable transportation as travel through the
office’s service will be required.
Salary:
$40,100 + D.O.E.; excellent benefits and leave package.
