Background:

Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is seeking a staff attorney to work in its Pembroke office, which provides free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income persons in Robeson and Scotland counties of North Carolina.  LANC is a statewide, nonprofit [501(c)(3)] law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to those households whose income falls below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Interviewing, advice and legal representation to low income clients with particular emphasis on domestic violence, family law and related matters such as housing, consumer and employment matters. Representing Legal Aid of NC clients in judicial and/or administrative hearings; providing outreach and community legal education; and other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

N.C. State Bar License and a demonstrated commitment to serving and working with low income persons and families of culturally diverse backgrounds. Preference for proficiency in Spanish. No prior legal work experience is necessary. Preference will be given to applicants with prior work experience with low income people.

Salary:

$40,100+ DOE. Excellent benefits package. Relaxed office atmosphere in culturally diverse atmosphere.
