Extra Credit Grant
Get a one-time $335 state grant to cover virtual schooling and childcare costs during the COVID-19 pandemic
Daisy Requeno, a bilingual paralegal in our Central Intake Unit, discusses North Carolina's Extra Credit Grant in English and Spanish.
How to get the grant
If you filed a North Carolina income tax return for 2019 and:
- You have at least one child who is 16 or younger who lived with you in 2019;
- You claimed the child as a dependent on your 2019 return.
NOTE: An eligible child could be your son or daughter, foster child, brother or sister, stepbrother or stepsister, grandchild, niece, or nephew.
You are automatically eligible to receive the one-time grant of $335. If you filed a North Carolina income tax return for 2019, you do not need to take any action to receive the money.
If you did not file a North Carolina income tax return for 2019 because you were not required to and you meet the criteria listed above, you might still receive the $335 if you apply for the Extra Credit Grant.
The deadline to apply is October 15, 2020. Make sure you have the social security number for yourself and any child you claim. Go to www.ncdor.gov/extracredit and apply.
