As a new advocate with less than one year of service under your belt, you may want to learn the basics of legal advocacy and attend “What You Didn’t Learn In Law School – Becoming A Legal Aid Lawyer.” This two-day training will cover basic skills such as interviewing, issue spotting, case assessment, case development, and trial practice. AGENDA Thursday, August 2 Understanding and Communicating with LANC Clients: This session consists of separate presentations to increase awareness of how poverty affects our clients’ decision making, and to address how to develop and maintain an attorney client relationship with clients who may have mental illness, have limited reading comprehension, have experienced domestic violence, fail to follow their attorney’s advice and instructions, or not speak English. 10:15 - 11:30 am | Walking In Their Shoes: Empowering clients to make good decisions and understanding when they don’t.
