This year’s Day of Giving theme, “It’s #JustFair,” highlights the critical importance of ensuring access to civil legal services that help protect your home, your safety, your earned benefits, insurance, educational rights, and employment rights. Everyone deserves access to justice—regardless of their ability to afford an attorney.
We believe that our most vulnerable neighbors deserve the same opportunity to stand up for themselves in the face of injustice and abuse. It’s just fair.
By participating in Day of Giving, you are helping ensure that justice and support remain within reach for every individual and community across North Carolina.
Join us on April 30 by donating and helping spread the word. Together, we can make justice accessible for all.

We learn a lot about “client-centered lawyering” in law school, but I truly experienced it when we, LANC attorneys, and our clients all put our heads together to solve legal problems as equals… I am grateful for the lessons we learned about life and the law from the clients and attorneys we worked with, and I came away inspired to continue doing legal aid during and after law school.

By partnering with Legal Aid of North Carolina students in the Wills & AD Pro Bono Project at Campbell Law School are able to engage in extremely rewarding pro bono work by helping local members of their community complete essential documents that provide them with security and peace of mind. The annual Day of Giving is a reminder of how impactful our collective efforts can be to make a difference in the lives of those around us.

I’m dedicating my Giving Day donation to all of our legal staff that solve complex issues every day for their clients – and to a former mentor who always reminded me that the greatest gift we can give to others is the opportunity to be themselves. Sometimes that means moving a legal barrier out of their way!

National studies show that 86% of low-income Americans receive inadequate or no legal help when facing serious legal issues. Unrepresented tenants get evicted. Unrepresented victims of domestic violence don’t get restraining orders against their attackers. Unrepresented immigrants don’t get status. Access to legal assistance is the key to security, stability and safety for our most vulnerable neighbors. That’s why Debbie and I contribute funds to Legal Aid of North Carolina and why I volunteer my time with multiple Legal Aid programs. Join us in supporting Legal Aid on this Day of Giving!
