ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A MEANINGFUL AND ENGAGING FELLOWSHIP?
Legal Aid of North Carolina invites aspiring legal advocates to join us in addressing our state’s most pressing legal challenges. Since our inception, we have been a pillar of justice, steadfast in defending the rights of North Carolinians in courts and communities. From safeguarding housing rights to supporting survivors of domestic violence and beyond, we tackle intricate issues to ensure every individual’s rights are upheld under the law.
WHAT FELLOWSHIPS ARE AN OPTION?
Legal Aid of North Carolina has partnered with applicants successfully on project-based fellowship applications including the Skadden Fellowship and the Equal Justice Works Design-Your-Own Fellowship. We are also open to interest in applying to other project-based fellowships, such as Justice Catalyst or internal law-school specific fellowships. Our internal committee will decide which fellowships we are willing to pursue with a given applicant based on your application proposal and our internal funding resources.

PROCESS:
Proposals should identify the local office or project that would host the fellow. Our general practice areas of housing, domestic violence, consumer law, and benefits are served through local offices listed here: legalaidnc.org/offices. We also have statewide projects that focus on specific areas of work: legalaidnc.org/projects. If you are not sure which office or project is the best host for your proposal, contact us at jobs@legalaidnc.org.
While we are open to proposals in any of our areas of work, LANC is especially interested in applicants seeking to pursue fellowships to address the following areas:
- Fair housing – expand capacity to pursue fair housing claims/defenses and reasonable accommodations in eviction and habitability cases at the local level. This fellow would join our Fair Housing Project in Durham.
- Immigration – increase access to immigration relief for underserved survivors of violence, using community-based strategies, digital access platforms, or some combination. This fellow would join our Immigration Pathways for Victims (IMMPAV) project in Raleigh or Charlotte and must have strong written and spoken Spanish language skills.
- Lumbee federal recognition – focus on legal developments resulting from federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe and work to ensure access to justice for members of this community. This fellow would join our Fayetteville office.
