Katelyn Millette
Director of NC Medicaid Ombudsman
“Working at Legal Aid has been a dream of mine since college. Driven by a common goal to remove barriers to economic opportunity, Legal Aid fosters a culture of client-focused, solution-oriented, but most importantly, service-driven, leadership that makes coming to work a joyful experience grounded in the knowledge that our sole mission is to improve the lives of low-income members of our community.”
About
Katelyn “Katey” Millette has served in the NC Medicaid Ombudsman division at Legal Aid since the Program’s inception in 2021; beginning as the inaugural Program Manager during implementation, she then transitioned to Director in 2023. The Ombudsman Program was created to advocate for, and empower, Medicaid beneficiaries in NC during the State’s transition to Managed Care. Katey is proud to lead a team of passionate advocates who tirelessly provide issue resolution for individuals encountering barriers to care; educate and inform beneficiaries of their rights and benefits under Medicaid in NC; utilize a “no wrong door” approach to refer and connect clients with community resources; and monitor data-backed trends to report systemic issues to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Katey is a native of the Triangle area and grew up in Wendell, NC with her brother and best friend, David Millette. Katey earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Meredith College where she served as President of the Social Work Club and was recognized as Social Work Student of the Year in 2015. In her free time, Katey enjoys gardening and being outside in nature, spending time with her sons and husband, and cheering for the Carolina Hurricanes!
