Bio highlights: Lauren Ashley joined Legal Aid of NC as an attorney on our Pro Bono Programs team in 2025. Working from our Asheville office, she focuses primarily on our efforts to coordinate pro bono services for survivors of Tropical Storm Helene. She also supports our statewide heir property work.

“As an Asheville resident,” Lauren Ashley said, “I not only advocate for Helene survivors, I also experienced the disaster firsthand. I’ve seen the immense need for legal support in communities throughout Western North Carolina, and I feel fortunate for the opportunity to use my experience and skills to help meet that need.”

Originally from Georgia, Lauren Ashley earned her J.D. from Mercer University in Macon and worked in a civil litigation practice in Atlanta for several years before relocating to Asheville in 2019. Since becoming licensed in North Carolina, her practice has focused on real estate law, and estate planning and administration.

“While most of my experience has been in private practice, I’m excited to bring that background to this role, where I now help coordinate, support, and even mentor fellow attorneys from the private bar who are generously volunteering their time to serve North Carolinians across the state. Pro bono work is such an important way we come together as a legal community to support our neighbors and ensure everyone has access to the legal help they need. It’s an honor to be a part of this work.”

Lauren Ashley is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Buncombe County Bar, where she also serves on the Pro Bono Committee. She is also an officer of the WNC Chapter of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.

Fun fact: I love fly fishing! I got into it a few years ago when I bought a guided trip for me and my husband. I ended up catching the first fish – and the most fish! – and I’ve been “hooked” ever since!
