Richard M. Klein

About

Richard co-chairs the Legal Aid NC Employment Law Practice Group and Employment Law Task Force with Wilson Supervising Attorney John Keller. He has specialized in employment, housing, education and government benefits law and has litigated several class actions. He received the NCBA Greenblatt Award as Legal Services Attorney of the Year in 2015.

Richard was Litigation Director for Legal Services of North Carolina 1978-1983 and Executive Director of Farmworker Legal Services 1983-1985. He joined Legal Services of the Lower Cape Fear (which became the Legal Aid NC-Wilmington Office) in 1985. He became co-managing attorney of Legal Aid NC-Wilmington in 1996 with Jim Wall and continued as managing attorney when Jim Wall retired in 2016.

He was a member of the NCBA Labor and Employment Section Council for several years and is now the permanent Legal Services Liaison to the Council. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1966 with a BS in Management and from Fordham University Law School in 1969. He was a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow and an attorney with Wisconsin legal aid programs 1969-1978. He is licensed to practice law in North Carolina, Wisconsin and New York.
