Our second largest funding source — the North Carolina Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) — has been redirected away from civil legal aid. This eliminates a long-standing, non-taxpayer source of funding that has supported civil legal services across North Carolina for more than four decades. It also jeopardizes access to justice for thousands of vulnerable North Carolinians.
This change means fewer resources for survivors of domestic violence, veterans seeking benefits, and families recovering from disasters — especially in rural communities like Rocky Mount, one of several offices we had to close due to lost IOLTA funding.
