Legal Aid of North Carolina is here to remove civil legal barriers to achieving health equity for every vulnerable North Carolinian. It is our priority to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to the resources they need to create the conditions for positive health outcomes and wellbeing. We understand that health and wellbeing are impacted by injustice, systemic barriers such as structural racism, and inequities in socioeconomic conditions. To address civil legal barriers, we need to make equity-informed decisions where your voice is centered in our priorities and decision-making. We want to hear and elevate your voice.
Medicaid is an integral tool for the wellbeing of millions of North Carolinians. Medicaid helps to provide coverage for medically necessary services for North Carolina’s most vulnerable residents, including preventive care, therapy, medicines, medical equipment, surgeries, and procedures. Many North Carolinians are unable to obtain coverage and do not qualify for Medicaid. Furthermore, many North Carolinians who do receive Medicaid do not receive necessary medical services due to denials for treatment.
Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Medicaid Lived Experience Story Project aims to share the stories of real people and their experiences with the Medicaid program. We wish to share stories from those with all types of experiences with Medicaid — those who have found help, those struggling to apply for the program, and those missing critical supports. We aim to share these stories to promote health equity for all North Carolinians. Your stories will help guide the work that we do. Health is our shared responsibility, and you are the center of that vision.
